2020 DOUBLE PANDEMIC

A year of resilience and resistance

Despite a raging health crisis, violence in CAR didn't stop. Cramped conditions in the camps and fears over the spread of the virus made returning home the more compelling option. Displaced village chiefs sought out our local mediators to negotiate with armed groups for safe passage and with NGOs for support with rebuilding their villages.

In solidarity with those on the frontlines, Cit members drew closer together and volunteered where each of us could be useful to support our families, community and those most affected. Also, fighting against dominant repressive systems, we worked towards greater integration of the frontline within our governing structure and took to the streets in support of black lives.

The year depleted our resources and a fight is looming to help Cit stand itself up again.

Between 2018 and 2019, CIT's work in CAR expanded dramatically from consulting for other institutions to implementing our first conflict resolution program. CIT was sought after for mediation by communities and armed groups alike.

Organizationally, CIT opened an office in Bangui, then transferred the program to our local mediators who started a conflict resolution center in Bria. CIT also began working in the DRC and furthered its peacemaking efforts in the US. We formed a Board of Directors that gathered experts from Asia, Europe, the US and Africa to support the work of our frontline peacemakers.

During this time,  we also learned some hard lessons about the control donors exercise over the money they grant and its impact on our ability to conduct beneficiary-centered programming.

2016 was a tremendous year for Communities in Transition (CIT). We strengthened our reputation as a conflict management consulting firm and solidified our expertise in Central Africa. Here are a few highlights from this past year for you to enjoy.

2017 looks even more promising. With hard work and persistence, we'll continue to grow our company. Our goal for the upcoming year is to grow our team of conflict resolution experts, diversify our funding streams, and implement our first mediation program!

Happy New Year and best wishes in 2017 to you and your families,

Nathalie
