Dr Walters Samah is a conflict resolution specialist and governance expert with several years of experience conducting training for a wide range of stakeholders, including legislators, local authorities, traditional leaders, uniformed officers, armed opposition groups, and civil society representatives.

Walters joined the African Union in 2015, where he is currently serving as the Head of the Mission Analysis Cell of the UN-mandated African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM). He is a member of the Joint AU-UN subject matter experts in charge of delivering pre-deployment training to AMISOM’s Troop and Police Contributing Countries, including Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Burundi, Nigeria, Sierra Leone and Ghana. The pre-deployment package delivered to the troops includes cross-cutting themes such as IHL/IHRL, protection of civilians, SOMA, ROE, conduct and discipline, sexual exploitation and abuse, gender mainstreaming, conflict-related sexual violence, child protection, and environmental protection.

Previously, Dr Samah worked as Mediator & Dialogue Facilitator for the Danish Refugee Council in Central Africa, a Parliamentary Strengthening Specialist for USAID/DAI in Haiti, and a Civil Affairs Officer for the UN Stabilization Mission in Haiti, respectively.

Before launching his international career more than a decade ago, Dr Samah taught in colleges and universities in Cameroon. He holds a MA in Political Science and a doctorate in History of International Relations from the University of Yaoundé I, Cameroon.
