Board Member

Thank you for considering a position on the Board of Directors (BOD) of Communities in Transition (CIT).

CIT’s mission is to assist communities in their search for sustainable peace. We do so by:

  • Advancing the understanding of complex crisis through comprehensive conflict analysis and assessments,
  • Facilitating inclusive and sustainable conflict engaging dialogue processes, and
  • Ensuring knowledge transfer and ownership to empower local peacemakers.

CIT is transitioning into a cooperative of peacemakers located around the world. We are inviting conflict engagement practitioners who are looking for a home for their work to join the Board

Please read our by-laws before applying. Those are the agreements we hold between each other.

Expectations

The purpose of CIT’s Board of Directors is to advance the work of front-line practitioners to fulfill the mission of the organization. That means that as a Board member your job is to help other peacemakers, such as yourself advance their work. The Board’s governing principles are based on:

  • A balanced care for the whole of people, planet and profit;
  • A nurturing of the inter-connectedness of all members of CIT; and
  • A commitment to seeking out the consent of those impacted.

The role of the Board of Directors is to engage in the oversight of CIT. The Board assumes this responsibility by getting involved in the lives and activities of CIT members and together crafting collective responses to the needs they uncover. There is no financial compensation for serving as a Board member.

Individual Board members: in addition to the above responsibilities, each Board member will be expected to:

  • Know the organization’s mission, policies, programs, and needs
  • Leverage connections, networks, and resources to help achieve CIT’ mission
  • Maintain confidentiality about all internal matters relating to CIT

The Board meets four times a year and Board members serve a two-year term, renewable indefinitely. BOD meetings are held remotely

Applications from all over the world are strongly encouraged. Interested candidates should send their CV to Nathalie at info@communitiesintransition.com.
