Mediation Surge Team Preparation

About this Project

To implement security agreements that protect civilian lives, Nathalie Al-Zyoud, founder and Senior mediator with Communities in Transition spent 3 weeks in the Central African Republic preparing its first cohort of local conflict resolution practitioners to deploy in communities where violence and rising tensions are threatening the peace process and national stability.

Participants were trained in mediation, restorative justice and re-entry circles for returning combatants and prepared to address three types of conflicts dynamics in CAR causing civilian casualties and/or mass displacements: (1) fighting between armed groups; (2) attacks on civilians; and (3) ex-combatant recidivism.

Mediation Surge Teams (MST) are skilled dialogue facilitators who lead, as impartial third-parties, confidential dialogue processes that empower self-determined parties in conflict to develop solutions that meet everyone’s needs.
