1.25.21 MEETING OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Date: January 25th, 2021
Present: Justin, Kenu, Linda, Cynthia, Jerome (translator), Walters, Ali, Seleman, Jacki, Manal

Updates and Upcoming Peacebuilding Events, Conferences and Workshops

  • Kenu: the farmer conflict is escalating in India. Farmers are currently on strike against government policies that are harming them and have organised a protest parade during which they will be driving their tractors around the city during tomorrow's Republic Day festivities.
  • Linda: noticed an increase in event on conspiracy theories
  • Walters: participated in the "Future of Peacekeeping Operations" (FUPO) events which are looking at improving the effectiveness of peacekeeping operations
  • Nathalie: joined the EPIP steering committee and GW DEI working group under GW's Diversity and Inclusion Council

Finances

  • 2020 drained CIT's reserves and we are left with a little over $6,000 in our bank account. Nathalie drew her last salary in January.
  • To navigate the gap in funding, Nathalie introduced the "offers and needs fair" where resources are shifted from where they are, to where they are needed. We all would like to extend our most sincerest gratitude to Cynthia for her generous donation of $1,000 to the CIT-Bria team.
  • Our next Board meetings will focus on aligning our funding streams with our values

Board Officer Selection

The following people were selected to serve for a 3-year term in the following positions:

We want to thank the outgoing team of Interim Board Officers, Walters, Cynthia and Linda for their willingness to step up when they were needed and help carve a process for the selection of new officers.

Other

  • Board meetings rate: Kenu's proposal to increase the number of Board meetings per year from 3 to 4 was unanimously approved. The time of our Board meetings will remain 9-11am (ET). The actual date will stay flexible.
  • CIT-India: the initial capital needed to open a CIT office in India is $20,000 and the legal requirements are quite demanding. Kenu decided to shift directions and work on building a core group of conflict resolution practitioners in India before worrying about an office.
  • TigerSwan: Nathalie reached out to both TigerSwan and IDS, the Syria IDIQ holder, to discuss the illegal activities of Tigerswan in North Dakota. No response from TigerSwan and IDS would like to give them the benefit of the doubt. Nathalie will continue to pursue IDS for clarification about a mitigation plan to prevent this from happening again. We will exit the IDIQ as a last resort.

Next Board meeting: April 2021
